Problem:

The printer prints lightly. The problem often will surface after replacing the transfer belt, fuser , formatter or engine controller.

Check the flat-flex cable (FFC) that goes from the bottom of the formatter (at connector J11) to the top of the engine controller (at connector J100). It likely is not making a good connection in the ZIF socket on the engine controller. Solution: The flat-flex cable (FFC) that goes from the bottom of the formatter (at connector J11) to the top of the engine controller (at connector J100) is not making a good connection in the ZIF socket on the engine controller. This socket needs to be unlocked before the cable is removed from it and then locked after the cable is inserted into it.

It does not just plug in. To unlock the ZIF socket, pull its lower/black lock tab forward then pull the FFC out. To lock it, first place the FFC as deep and straight into the ZIF socket as it can go then push its lower/black lock tab inward. If the FFC sits loosely in the ZIF socket, place a layer of tape on the backside of the FFC to increase its thickness so that it will be held more tightly.
